At South Shore Academy, we deliver an ambitious, knowledge-rich curriculum designed to ensure every pupil can achieve academic excellence. Uniquely Challenging

We set high expectations from day one, introducing pupils to rich concepts, rigorous practice, and inspiring texts:

  • English: In Year 7, pupils study classic Greek myths, Homer’s The Odyssey, and Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. By the end of Key Stage 4, students will have studied four Shakespeare plays in depth alongside a diverse selection of classic poetry, literature, and non-fiction.

  • Mathematics: Year 7 pupils focus on building speed, confidence, and mathematical fluency with core arithmetic, negatives, and fractions. We value depth over speed—spending up to six weeks mastering complex concepts like algebraic fractions to ensure complete understanding.

  • Modern Foreign Languages (Spanish): Year 7 pupils build strong foundations in Spanish grammar, mastering complex sentence structures and vocabulary across a variety of real-world topics.

  • Expressive Arts: In Drama, pupils learn the fundamentals of performance, expression, and the historical development of drama over time.

Across every subject, this academic rigour inspires pupils, builds confidence, and opens doors to new possibilities.

A carefully planned, intelligently sequenced curriculum is one of the most powerful tools for driving achievement and equity. Every subject is structured to build knowledge logically over time, supporting pupils to develop socially, intellectually, and personally.

We maintain a broad, three-year Key Stage 3 curriculum. We do not narrow our subject provision early; instead, we ensure pupils gain a well-rounded education across the arts, humanities, languages, and sciences before making informed choices for their GCSEs in Year 10.

All pupils in Key Stage 3 study:

Key Stage 4 & GCSE Provision

At Key Stage 4, all pupils study core GCSE subjects: English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, and Combined or Triple Science.
